PA12-CF vs PA6-CF vs PPA-CF: Which Carbon Nylon Should You Buy?

Carbon fiber nylons are everywhere now โ€” and the naming is confusing. PA12-CF, PA6-CF, PPA-CF, PAHT-CF... they all sound the same but print very differently. Here's the plain-English breakdown so you buy the right spool.

PA12-CF: The Balanced All-Rounder

PA12 is the easiest nylon to print. Less moisture-hungry than other nylons, low warp, good layer adhesion. Add carbon fiber and you get stiffness without brittleness.

Best for: functional parts, brackets, anything structural. The forgiving choice.

PA6-CF: Stronger, More Demanding

PA6 is mechanically stronger than PA12 but absorbs way more moisture โ€” you MUST dry it before printing or you'll get pops and stringing. Higher bed temps needed.

Best for: maximum strength parts when you're willing to manage drying.

PPA-CF: The High-Temp Heavyweight

PPA (polyphthalamide) is the "HT" of nylons โ€” higher heat deflection than PA12 or PA6. Needs a hot nozzle (300ยฐC+) and a hot chamber.

Best for: engine-bay parts, anything near heat.

The Bottom Line
