PEI vs Cryogrip vs G10: Best Build Plate Surface for Carbon Fiber Nylon

Your PA6-CF part is peeling off the plate at the back corner again. The filament was dry, the bed was level, the first layer looked perfect — and it still let go. Before you blame the nylon, look at the surface it’s sitting on. The build plate is the biggest variable in carbon fiber nylon adhesion, and most warping fights are won or lost there.
Why the Surface Matters More for Carbon Nylon Than PLA
PLA sticks to almost anything, so the plate barely matters. Nylon is different: it shrinks as it cools and pulls the corners up hard. PA-CF contracts less than plain nylon, but it still needs a surface with real bite. A smooth, worn, or greasy plate fails every time, no matter how good your z-offset is.
The rule in our shop: match the surface to the material and to the bed temperature you can actually hold.
Textured PEI: The Reliable Default
Textured PEI is still the workhorse for PA6-CF and PA12-CF. Run the bed at 80–100°C, keep the surface clean, and it grabs without adhesive. Two things bite you: smooth PEI does not hold nylon well, and high-temp nylons like PAHT-CF can bond hard enough to tear the coating when you pry the part off.
Cryogrip: Lower Bed Temps Without Losing Grip
The BIQU Cryogrip Pro is a double-sided, 7-layer composite plate that holds nylon and PC at noticeably lower bed temps. That matters when your printer cannot hold 100°C, or you just do not want to soak the whole chamber for one part. It releases clean once the plate cools — no prying, no gouges in the surface.
G10: The Budget Contender
G10 — garolite — is a fiberglass laminate that is cheap and tough, and it grips nylon at high bed temps. It is a fine experiment surface, but it is unforgiving: if the bed temp dips, parts release mid-print, and there is no magnetic flex to pop parts off. If you go G10, add an adhesive and do not trust it cold.
What We Use
In our shop we run textured PEI for quick jobs, and we switch to the BIQU Cryogrip Pro when we want lower bed temps or parts that release without a fight. When a part absolutely has to stay put — big PA-CF base plates, PETG that loves to lift — we brush on Nano Polymer adhesive. It works on PEI, G10, glass, and PEEK, and it cleans off with water.
