PAHT-CF Print Settings: Temps, Drying, and Tuning That Actually Work

You bought PAHT-CF because you need parts that survive heat and load - under a hood, next to a motor, on a drone that bakes in the sun. Then the first print warped off the plate, the second split at a layer line, and the third came out rough and stringy because the spool sat out for two days. PAHT-CF is high-temperature nylon, and it punishes habits that PA12-CF tolerates without complaint. These are the settings we actually run in the shop.
Dry PAHT-CF Harder Than You Dry PA12
PAHT-CF is one of the most moisture-hungry filaments you can buy. A spool left on the machine overnight absorbs enough water to ruin the next print: popping, stringing, cloudy surfaces, and layer adhesion that fails exactly when the part is under load.
We dry at 90-100°C for 8-12 hours before every serious print. If your dryer tops out at 70°C, run 12-16 hours instead. Then print straight from the dryer or a sealed dry box - PAHT reabsorbs moisture in hours, not weeks, and undried high-temp nylon is the #1 cause of "strong filament, weak parts" complaints.
Hotend, Bed, and Chamber: This Is Not PA12-CF
PAHT-CF needs a hotend that holds 280-300°C steady for the whole job. Run a hardened steel nozzle - carbon fiber will chew through brass in one long print, and a worn nozzle means under-extruded, weak walls. We prefer 0.6mm for CF nylons: fewer clogs, better flow, stronger parts.
Set the bed to 90-100°C. If your printer has a heated chamber, heat-soak at 50-60°C for 30 minutes before the first layer. A warm chamber is what stops corners peeling off the plate and layers splitting apart mid-print. On an open-frame printer, PAHT-CF is a constant fight - plan for an enclosure before you buy the spool.
Fan Off, Speed Down, First Layer Slow
Part cooling is the enemy of layer adhesion on PAHT-CF. We run the fan at 0-10%, and only after the first several layers are down. Bridges are the exception - a brief bump to 20-30% keeps them clean.
Strength parts get printed slow: outer walls at 40-60mm/s, inner walls at 60-80mm/s, infill at 80-100mm/s. First layer at 20-30mm/s with a normal squish - don't over-squish PAHT or you'll bulldoze the first layer and the part will show it on every layer above. Add a brim on tall or narrow parts; it pulls off clean and saves the print when a corner tries to lift at hour three.
